Note: N22970 Because of his popularity and positive recommendations, Dr. Appleton was able to board with an unnamed respectable family in Charleston, while his wife Tacy in New Jersey prepared to join him. However, Dr. Appleton again committed bigamy when, on April 21, 1843, he ran away with and married a most reputably connected lady who resided in his boarding house. The woman, a widow, and her young daughter, left the boarding house with Dr. Appleton, taking with them all their trunks and baggage. The identities of this widow and her daughter have yet to be learned.
