Wolf; 1835-1920; Civil War, Sgt in Co A, 18th Iowa Volunteer Infantry; ; original on file with National Archives, Washington DC, photocopy in poss of Tad D. Campbell, Gilroy CA; NOTE: Enlisted as a Sgt. at Dubuque IA on 17 Jun 1862. Contracted measles near Hannibal MO on or about 15 Aug 1862. Treated in Fall 1862 for about three mos at the hospital in Jefferson City MO, then about 2 weeks in Winter 1862 at the hospital at Springfield MO. Transferred to the convalescent hospital at Benton Barracks MO. Due to his illness he suffered from chronic pericarditis, friction sound and irregular action of the heart, and dyspepsia. Discharged on 23 Feb 1863 at St. Louis MO. Description: 5' 6", dark complexion, grey eyes and brown hair. When enlisted he was a farmer. [Researched by Tad D. Campbell, Gilroy CA].

ACTION-CENSUS: Find in 1900 Census. Every page of Welda Twp., Anderson Co., KS checked. His son-in-law Ephraim A. Nokes was the enumerator for Welda Twp. and it seems unlikely that Nokes would have omitted Jonathan if he was living there.
