Note: N57 PARENTS: Probate Records, Vols E-G; 1855-1883; Essex Co Ontario Surrogate Court; Vol F, pp 222-223 ; FHL film 589002; NOTE: Will of William Foster, dtd 4 Dec 1867, proved 23 Apr 1873. William Foster, late of Windsor, Essex Co Ontario, shoemaker, died on or about 25 Mar 1873 at Windsor. Names wife Dinah Foster, children Moses, John, Eliza wife of Martin Cole, Hannah wife of John Turner, Elizabeth wife of Ira Hapka[sic], grandchildren [not named] children of deceased daughter Sarah wife of George Mathews. Executors wife Dinah and sons Moses and John. [Researched by Tad D. Campbell, Gilroy CA]. BIRTH: Written on a scrap of paper found in the family Bible of Moses Foster (now in possession of Tad D. Campbell, Gilroy CA) is the following: "Uncle John says that Pa was 71 years 2 months & 6 days old so be sure to put it that way. Uncle has the Family Record so he knows for certain. He was born in 1817." From the dates and age mentioned it is clear that this refers to Moses Foster. What is not clear is who wrote this and who they were writing to. Perhaps they were writing it at the time of Moses' death in preparation for an obituary. Since the author refers to Moses as "Pa" it is assumed that "Uncle John" was Moses' brother John, son of William and Dinah Foster. This John should have been residing at Winsdor, Essex Co ON at the time of Moses' death in 1888. The author could be any of the following: Charles D. Foster, Mary J. (Foster) Liger, Arthur Foster, Cora (Foster) Long, John D. Foster, Frank E. Foster or Nelson T. Foster. The recipient was likely Moses' wife, Sarah A. (Miller) Foster or one of the children that lived in Otsego Co MI at the time of Moses' death, namely: Arthur, Cora, John D., Frank E. or Nelson. [Researched by Tad D. Campbell, Gilroy CA].
