His death occurred in Tipton county in 1876, "at the supposed age of over one hundred years." His first wife died in Kentucky and her family history is unknown After her death, Calvin remarried, having issue by both marriages. BIOGRAPHY-MARRIAGE-DEATH-OCCUPATION: BIOGRAPHICAL & GENEALOGICAL HISTORY OF CASS, MIAMI, HOWARD & TIPTON COUNTIES, IN; ; 1898, Vol I; p 186; Sutro Library, San Francisco CA; NOTE: Calvin Purvis was "an old settler of Kentucky and all his life was a great hunter and trapper, but his general occupation was that of agriculture." Further states that "he lived to be over one hundred years of age, never having a day's sickness; he died simply of 'old age.' He was married twice and had a large number of children." DEATH-CONFLICT: Both TIPTON COUNTY INDIANA HISTORY and BIOGRAPHICAL & GENEALOGICAL HISTORY OF CASS, MIAMI, HOWARD & TIPTON COUNTIES state that Calvin Purvis lived to be over one hundred. In the 1850 U.S. Census his age is listed as 62, which if correct, and if he died in 1876 (as the first source states), would make his age at death only about 88 years old.
