Verification that the Michael Flynn on the above document is the Michael Flynn of Fauquier Co., VA: a. Application for membership to the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR # 295759 - Nan Stringfellow): Ancestor's Service - Elisha Thomas (Elisha Thomas -- 3rd name below Michael Flynn on the above mentioned pay warrant.) Service: "While a resident of Fauquier County, Virginia, he enlisted January 12, 1777, and served three years, one month, and twenty days as private in Captain Robert Bell's company in Colonel George Gibson's Virginia Regiment, and was in the battles of Brandywine and Germantown." Pension claim of Elisha Thomas, No. W2974. Elisha Thomas was married to Alice Glasscosk at Fauquier Co., Virginia, 1788. Copy of DAR application on file. b. On the above mentioned pay warrant, 41 names are on the warrant. Of the 41 names, 18 are personally mentioned in "Abstracts of Wills, Administrations, and Marriages of Fauquier Co., VA, 1759-1800 by J. Estell Stewart King. Rent Rolls, Marriages, and other data included. c. Of the other names mentioned on the pay warrant, only 6 do not appear as family names in King's book. This strongly suggests that the warrants issued on page 570, 19 Apr 1784, of Virginia State Library Pay Record, were paid to residents of Fauquier Co., VA. d. According to an appraisal of the property of Michael Flynn in Clark Co., KY, 9 Mar 1807 (Michael Flynn deceased), Michael Flynn died Ca March 1807 and therefore, applied for no pension which would further substantiate his service. His wife, Mary, died Ca 1821 and applied for no pension. !Fauquier Co., VA was formed from Prince William Co. in 1758. No Census of Virginia is available before 1810. The 1810 Census of Virginia includes the following FLYNN'S: - John, Sr. Fauquier Co. - William Fauquier Co. - Alexander Hampshire Co. (now in West Virginia) - Daniel Culpepper Co. (South of Fauquier) - Valentine Culpepper Co. Since Michael Flynn does not appear on the 1810 Census, it substantiates the proof that he had removed from Virginia as he then appears on the 1805 Tax Records of Clark Co., KY. !TAX RECORDS, Clark Co., KY - 1805, 1806, 1807, 1810 & 1820: > CLARK CO., KY, 1805 TAX RECORD: ------------------------------ MICHAEL FLYNN, Sr. 1 male over 21 1 male between 16-21 (Only males of Militia age are shown) > CLARK CO., KY, 1806 TAX RECORD: ------------------------------ MICHAEL FLINN, Sr. 1 male over 21 100 Acres Stoner Creek 1 male between 16-21 John Flinn 1 male over 21 Michael Flinn, Jr. 1 male over 21 William Flinn 1 male over 21 > CLARK CO., KY, 1807 TAX RECORD: ------------------------------ MARY FLYNN 50 Acres Stoner Creek 1 male between 16-21 John Flynn 50 Acres Stoner Creek 1 male over 21 Michael Flynn (This shows the 100 acres on Stoner Creek divided between his widow, Mary, and his oldest son, John Flynn) > CLARK CO., KY, 1810 TAX RECORD: ------------------------------ William Flynn 1 male over 21 John Flynn 50 Acres Stoner Creek 1 male over 21 ARMSTRONG FLYNN 1 male over 21 Michael Flynn 1 male over 21 (Evidently Armstong was the male between 16-21 in the household of Michael and later, Mary, and he turned 21 in 1809) > CLARK CO., KY, 1820 TAX RECORD: ------------------------------ Michael Flynn 60 acres Stoner Creek John Flynn 164 acres Stoner Creek Mary Flynn 50 acres Stoner Creek William Flynn ARMSTRONG FLYNN 29 acres Stoner Creek (This is the last tax record showing Mary Flynn.
