Notes
a. Note:   The following comes from Barbara McLellen Leachman (Mrs. Charles Ray Leachman Jr, of Fenton, MI, in an E-mail to David Leachman, 18 May 1997: "I wish I knew more about the Leachman's in the Gold Rush. When I found my husband's great grandfather's obit. that is where I first heard of him going west, it mentioned that a brother went with him but died of chlorea along the way. ( I now know that was Andrew) as all the other boys are accounted for. The obit. said James Leachman use to tell many stories of his venture out west and everyone loved hearing the stories. Unfortunately, the stories were never written down. And my father-in-law would never talk about his father's family. His parents were divorced when he was still young and the mother did a good job of turning all the kids against their dad. I use to ask my father -in-law questions about the Leachmans and he would ignore me. None of his siblings would talk either. I did manage to find some divorce records, in Ind, and he was the one that filed for divorce. It is a shame that the information is lost forever.
