Note: In a 1982 letter from Gladys Leachman Johnson, she stated that "Uncle Ab Wilson" was instrumental in Ella marrying Sylvester York. Aunt Gladys recalled the wedding as being a "spiffy" affair, as they had negro maids and kitchen help. She said she could still see Ella coming down the stairs, she had on a lovely gray wedding dress. After the wedding Ella took her mother home to live with them.
