Note: From Dorothy Sidfrid William Allen Beeby grew to manhood in Clinton Co., IN, obtaining the education available for the time and place. In 1880 we find him in Jackson Township, Clinton Co., IN, living in the household of Isaac Cook, grandfather of his future wife. It is said he escorted a lady to Kansas, intending to return to Indiana when the task was completed. He apparently liked Kansas for he remained, taking a farm in the Roscoe community, northeast of Hill City, Graham Co., KS. Here he raised his family, renting adjoining land for crops for the farm was small and mostly grassland. William and his wife left the farm in 1916 and rented the property to her brother, Lew Flynn. They returned to the farm after a few years but left it again in 1922, never to return. They moved to Hays, Kansas, where William became a caretaker of the golf course at the Hays Country Club. William Beeby's children remembered him as a proud man who carried himself with military erectness until the day he died. He was a strict disciplinarian, a trait which did not mellow with age. In his younger days, William was a gay blade, known as the best dancer in Graham County. After he joined the Christian Church he followed its teachings strictly and required his children to do the same. Margaret Elizabeth Beeby Sidfrid claimed the hardest whipping she ever received was when her father caught her racing her horse on a Sunday afternoon. William and Flora gave all of their children two names but in every instance the children were called by their second names. Every one of their children suffered with diabetes. They are buried in the Mount Allen Cemetery, Hays, Ellis Co., KS. Flora Flynn Beeby was a jolly, happy woman in direct contrast with her strict and sober husband. Her cause of death was : Myocarditis (death certificate). Her daughter said her mother died six months after her first stroke. She said she always thought her mother had asthma because "she huffed and puffed and got blue around the mouth." She was also very obese. 1930 Census Ellis Co Kansas List Him as A Widow enumerated with him is daughter in law Dorothy 27 and Granddaughters Illean age 7 Dorothy age 3 6.12 Only one other child of his is living in Hayes at this time Son Charles A Beeby And his wife and family.
