Arrival Date: Jun 11, 1841 Age: 21 Gender: U Port of Arrival: New York Port of Departure: Liverpool Place of Origin: Great Britain Ship: North America Family Identification: 30045806 Microfilm Serial Number: M237 Microfilm Roll Number: 45 Thomas Taaff 1840 New York City Ward 17, New York 2 males under 5 1 male 30 to 40 1 female 15 to 20 1 female 30 to 40 Also enumerated on this page are Thomas McCannon and Patrick McCannon 1840 Census Thomas J Taft Spafford, Onondaga, New York I am skeptical that Thomas was the child of Patrick and Mary Hand Taaffe. The christening date provided does not match the age of death on the St. Basil's records. According to his tombstone, it would make his birth date around 1816. Also, if Thomas and Margaret were married in 1830, why did they wait almost 12 years to have a child? Why are the children not named after the "known" grandparents? These names do not follow the traditional Irish naming pattern. Update 3-17-08: Found baptismal certificate for a daughter born in 1833 verifying that Thomas and Margaret were married in 1830 and also confirming my suspicion they did not wait 11 years to have children. Also obtained a copy of the baptismal certificate for Thomas verifying he is the son of Patrick and Mary Hand Taaffe.
