Chapter VII History of the Croak Family. THe prin we have regarding the Croak Family came from the US censu discussions with Marcella Croak Boyce & the Towanda Catholi The Croaks lived In Marshview Pa, which was located betwee Albany in Asylum Township, there is nothing there now (1986 land. The only census records that listed Croaks were Asylu There is nothing in the census records for Asylum or othe in the years before or after 1860. ( I know that is not tr records listed 3 Croak households with families as follow great-great grandfather), age 50, day laborer, born in Irel or write; Michael, age 54 born in Ireland has real estate v cannot read or write. Edward age 56, day laborer, born in I read or write. The next household in the census was Barrett Barretts living there today (1986) so we feel reasonably su the Croak property was. Also, this property is very near th border & the town of New Albany, Pa where the original Cumm lived. This explains the probability of the Cummiskey & Cro The only Croak alive today (1986) is Marcella Croak Boyce Binghamton, NY. & is a widow. She is the granddaughter o mentioned earlier in the census records. Marcella was bor lived near New Albany on a farm until 1921. Since that sh Binghamton, NY area. (She has died since this was written) records re. Michael & Edward were as following, Michael ag Ireland; wife Johanna, age 47 born in Ireland; daughter Mar age 18; son Michael, age 15 born in Pa; daughter Ellen ag Pa. And for Edward, age 56 born in Ireland, wife Hannah bor Philip age 7 born in Pa. TheChurch records indicate that Mi married Michael Murray in the Towanda Catholic Church on Ma The sponsors were Michael Mitchell & Rachel Crimmins. Als marrird Mary Haslet on May 2 1866 at the Towanda Church. Th John Croak & Anna Sullivan. This info indicates that Willia Edward were brothers & that they emigrated from Ireland som 1820 & 1840. Marcella remembers being told that Michael & E families moved to the Boston, Mass. area sometime before 19 land records indicate Michael Croak purchased property in A 1859. This land was transferred to Michael's daughter & he 2, 1870. This may be when they moved to the Boston area. ( county of his birth. ( I beleive it was Tipperary) His wife Catherine & was born 1814. They emigrated between 1820 &184 if they were married before they arrived. William was a far raised his family In Marshview, Pa. William & Catherine ar Greatgreatgrandparents. They had 8 children all born in Pa William, Anty (Anna), Mary , Philip, (my greatgrandfather), Margaret & John. William (my gggrandfather died April 12 died Jan 16 1899. They are buried In SS, Peter & Paul Cemet Pa. In Oct. 1883 William deeded asmall lot in Asylum Twp. t This seems to be the only property he owned. William's will 2, 1884 & probated May 4 1889. William Croaks Family; Will Marshview. We assume he was not married because he lived o sisters Anty & Ellen in 1900. At that time he farmed 100 ac know if the Croaks owned the farm since we found no record purchases in the land records. cMary, born 1844 in Marshvie were any other children. Philip born in 1846 in Marshvie greatgrandfather) married Catherine Fittan At Towanda Catho 14 1876. The sponsors were Dyonisis Crimmins & Maria Fittan John F. (my grandfather B. 1878 D. 1951) & William b. 188 something??. Bridget born in 1848 in Marshview. She Marrie in Towanda on June 25 ,1874. Their sponsors were Philip Cro We have no other info on their life. 6 Ellen born in 1850 i 1907 she lived with William at the farm.Later she died in M breast cancer date unknown, 7Margaret born 1852 in Marshvi the Cummiskey Homestead in 1920. She married Richard Cummis Unknown) & she was the mother of Katherine Cummiskey Kinsle average stature & on the robust side. The few family pictur indicate that she dressed very average & maintained rathe expressions. There were always numerous people at the Cummi know Margaret liked family gatherings. During their marrie brothers & sisters lived in Missouri & further west, so the family activities on his side. However it appears that Marg strong relationship relatives always went back & forth fo which was a major social activity for the Irish durinh tha nothing of Margaret's education or her activities in Marshv marraige at age 27. The U.S. census in 1860 when she wa attending school & neither parent could read or write. Also shown as a "day laborer" whereas her uncle was the farme some unmarried sisters lived with him. We have not determin Croaks disposed of the farm in Marshview. Richard's paren were the original settlers on the Cummiskey Homestead in Wi 1840 & cauded the area to be called Cummiskey. John's paren Albany Twp. New Albany which is near Marshview & were no do associated with the Croaks. The nearest Catholic church eve is in Towanda. 8 John born 1859 in Marshview he married R was born in 1870 & they lived in New Albany area on a farm 1921 & Rose died in 1928. They had 6 children as follows: M married Zed Mott, she was aschool teacher; William born 189 1902 married Emmett O'Hara, she was a schoolteacher; Marcel married Thomas Boyce had 3 children ( 2were twins) she wa nurse; Ellen born 1909 died 1912; Joseph born 1910 marrie children, lived in Binghamton, NY.
