Indexed by: Linda M. Everhart, February 6 1996 - burial records supplied by Jane White Directions: About 1 mile north of Hwy 7 on NW351. Condition: The cemetery has beautiful, giant cedars and oaks and remains an active burial ground. It is kept in fair condition. History: The site was originally a church cemetery belonging to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church which stood on the SE corner of the grounds. The property was purchased in 1883 from Samuel and Susan Jackson and the founding trustees were John Taylor, Lewis Allen, Frank Williams and Richard Russell. The church building was sold in 1950 and torn down. Along the north fence are 29 graves moved by the Corps of Engineers in 1980 from the Fields Family Cemetery, which was located in the flood plain of the new Truman Lake. Many of these were unknown, and received new markers at that time stating the same. Jane White, who lives just NE of the cemetery, provided the burial records and information on many of her late husband's relations who are buried here. Her present home was formerly the Fields Creek School which closed prior to World War II. The church, cemetery, school and township were all named after the Fields family that were the first to settle in this area in 1834. Most of the graves of this well known family were moved to Englewood Cemetery in Clinton. One of the main focal points on the grounds is a huge, pointed monument erected by the Masons and others in the county, in the memory of Rev. S. F. Williams, pioneer preacher.
