Note: (Research): I took a picture of Mary and Effie's headstones in Gill cemetery. I've attached them for you. There was no sign of Jesse being buried there. I looked on the caretaker's list as well as walked through the old section. There was a Jesse Mitchell but it was John and Elmira's son, buried next to them. I think old Jesse may be buried wherever Martha is buried - maybe in another cemetery or at their homestead. At Little Rock there is a Baptist Church book (Clear Creek Church, I think) that mention's Jesse's death in 1913. I didn't think to look back in it for Martha's name. I'll try to go back next summer. Linda Griffith - September 2007 Hi Jana I don�t have any pictures of Jesse and Martha. I don�t even know where they are buried, for sure. I did not find them at Gill Cemetery. There is a Jesse Mitchell buried next to John and Elmira, but I�m pretty sure that is their son. The picture of Mary came from a cousin in Texas, Betty Meadows, with whom I�ve lost track. She told me at the time she sent the photos that she was having trouble with dementia. When I sent the photos back to her they came back to me as undeliverable. That was ten years ago, or so. The great news is that he is now doing well and getting back to normal activity. I'm recovering from bronchitis and just beginning to think of things other than necessities. I have heard back about my inquiry into an obituary for Mary Blakemore Mitchell. None was found, but I have an extraction of information from the Fort Smith Register of Deaths. [She was 77 years , 2 months, 17 days of age when she died. Female. White. Widowed. Born at Pine Springs, AR. Last residence was Rural Route D # 3, Van Buren, Crawford, County( this is just across the river from Fort Smith) Died at 3009 No. 6th.. Father:James Orms. Mother: Nancy Compton Services by Ocker Funeral Home in Van Buren. Died of Influenza/Pneumonia. Burial in Van Buren. Informant: Mrs. A.W. Stafford.] I have not heard back from our 'cousin' regarding sharing his name and e-mail with you, but I can't help but think this is just an oversite on his part. He and his mother have both been very cordial and his mother told me that she &/or her daughter would be interested in the DNA approach. (I didn't realize that female or male could contribute to mtDNA.) Since I haven't heard back from David and since his mother Marilyn has already expressed interest you might want to contact her first, but I will give you information for both of them. They descend from Rowena Clementine Mitchell Crawford. Marilyn is the daughter of Verna Rowena Boatright. (Can't remember giving you this information, but you can check it on World Connect.)
