I am so hopeful that you can tell me where you found the information that I have in bold type. I have never seen information on Rebecca's parents! Thank you so much for posting your information. I am anxiously looking forward to hearing back from you. Also I have a birth record for a son born to Egbert & Rebecca if you are interested. My interest in Egbert Johnson is that he was married to Mary C Perry. I am still trying to find out what happened to their children. Mary's father is my 4X great-grandfather. I believe I found their marriage record on Ancestry.com <http://ancestry.com/> and then poked around until I found her parents. I have also combed the Ralls County genealogy pages. I had two historians from Ralls give me info on the Leake and Perry family but they had nothing on the Johnson folks. I had to really dig for it. Yes, thank you I would love to have the birth record of the son of Egbert and Rebecca! And please let's agree to stay in touch and fill each other in on what is found out about these folks, okay? Best, Fawn Oh by the way, all those records, marriage, burial would be at St Pauls - I bet the LDS church has copies of all of that. ______________ Aug 5 Hi Fawn, Thank you for your response. When I was searching for information on Egbert I only found him & Mary on the 1870 census. I couldn't find him on the 1880 census & so I didn't know that he more than one child with Mary until I saw your records. Did you find him in the 1880 census? In the 1880 census his father's household was the next farm to Rebecca Elliott. He and Rebecca both lost spouses within a year of each other so it's easy to see how they would have gotten together. I can't seem to find any census records for Rebecca's family before she was married or her parents afterwards. In the 1880 census Rebecca's parents are both listed as being born in Kentucky, but whether that's correct or not I can't find a family she fits in in either the 1850 or 1860 census. Any ideas? The only record I can find for a Peter Jacques that might fit is this Civil War information. American Civil War Soldiers Name: Peter Jacques Side Served: Union State Served: Missouri Service Record: Enlisted as a Private. Enlisted in Company I, 11th SM Cavalry Regiment Missouri Sources: 304 This is the same regiment that Egbert Johnson served in, but I would have thought that Rebecca's father would have likely been too old to have served in the Civil War. Here is the birth record for the son that Egbert & Rebecca had. He isn't named in the birth record and I don't find him in Egbert's household in the 1900 census. Siblings of Mary C Perry were baptized and the records of that church are Saint Stephens of Indian Creek, Monroe County Missouri. Pat Kendrick 573/735-2541 has the records computerized. They were given to her by Julius Buckman, genealogist 573/588-7639, 209 E Chestnut, Shelbina, MO 63468. Julius has a lot of information. The St Paul's church cemetery records...... I am not sure who has those records but ask Pat Kendrick, if she doesn't know ask Julius - also ask him if he has info on your people - this man knows tons of stuff. I keep hoping that someone puts the transcriptions for that cemetery online. Mary C Perry/Johnson is buried there as is her father and I think her mother. Egbert might have used that cemetery as well - I do not know if Egbert is buried there but I sure would like to know. Hello Fawn, I have some information for St. Paul's Cemetery and it confirms that Egbert Johnson is buried there as you suspected. I have been trying to figure out where Egbert was at the 1880 census. So I decided to see what I could construct of his family to see if he or his sons might have been living with one of his brother's families. (There was a sister, Mary E. who probably married but I haven't been able to locate her.) No luck in finding them in the 1880 census, but it turned up a couple of interesting things. The information on the family of William G. Johnson is here: <http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=taggart101&id=I1936> * Sometime after Egbert died Belinda married his bachelor brother James William. They are listed on the 1920 Census together. * Egbert & Belinda's daughter Agatha married Ulysses G. Dudley. In following them in the census I found the most interesting thing! In 1920 in the census taker's writing was a note that reads: This man says he neither owns nor rents - his wife has a share in the farm with 2 half brothers, who has not been heard from for 18 years, the case is in the courthouse - trying to locate heirs and they pay taxes on farm, but no ? (one word I can't make out, maybe title?) - Please classify for me and thank you for same. In the 1930 census Ulysses is listed as owning their farm. I think that could mean one of at least two things. Possibly the legal matter was resolved or they might have been living on a farm that Belinda inherited from James William Johnson who died 3-4-1920. Based on your notes about Perry Johnson, I suppose it could be assumed that the census note might refer to William S. Johnson and the son of Egbert & Rebecca. It would be interesting to see what could be found in courthouse records! Just wanted to keep you informed as this might be a lead on your William S. Johnson. I will paste my notes for the census records below. They came, most from Kentucky, the descendants of an emigration from St. Marys (and Charles and Prince Georges counties) in 1785. The reasons for emigration from Maryland to Kentucky are varied. There were economic reasons with the depletion of available land and the consequences of constant plundering during the Revolutionary War. Religious freedom was also an issue for colonists who felt anti-Catholic bias for nearly a century. These ambitious Marylanders settled together in what today are the three Kentucky counties of Nelson, Washington, and Marion. As land opened in the west for settlement, some of these same pioneers packed up and headed out, seeking yet another opportunity for a better life. The idea for a reunion originated in 1988 with descendents living in Missouri, who were having a reunion of their own. What a genealogical opportunity to get the countrywide cousins together in one place! In 1990, the first reunion was held in Nazareth, KY, with a follow-up reunion in St. Marys County, MD, in 1992. Subsequent reunions have been held with the opportunity to research that hardy stock of ancestors who originally hailed from Southern Maryland and from St. Clements Island. _____________ Two centuries ago, 60 Catholic families left Maryland within a 10-year period, bound for the frontier state of Kentucky. On July 17-19, 1998 over 600 of their descendants from at least 35 states and South America met in Owensboro for the sixth Maryland/Kentucky Reunion. This group first met in Missouri in 1988 at a family reunion and has grown to its present numbers by meeting every other year at a different place to study their roots and the expansion of the frontier. This is truly living history. ____________ 8-3-2007 1:40 p.m. I called St. William Rectory Perry, MO 63462 573-565-2852 I talked with Carolyn about checking records for St. Paul's in Center, MO for: 11-13-1883 Marriage of Rebecca Elliott to Egbert Johnson Names of Parents of Rebecca (gave her Peter & Mary Jacques) 4-21-1885 or 4-2-1885 Burial for Rebecca Johnson Also told her according to family records Rebecca Louisa Jaquish or Jacques was baptized on 10-29-1865. He was the son of Jesse and Maria (Boice) Jaques. They both died in New York. They had twelve children, but only one or two are living. Hiram remained at home with his parents until their death, when he worked by the month until the spring of 1837, when he came to Illinois by the Ohio, Mississippi and Illinois rivers, with one of his brothers and two neighbors. They first built a mill race, working it by day, month or job for two years, and then took an interest in a saw and grist mill, and later bought it all and 200 acres of land. Mr. Jaques was married in 1838 or 1839, to Nancy Reeves of Kentucky, where her father and mother were early settlers. They had very few neighbors, but there was an abundance of wild game. Mr. Jaques has lived on the farm he first purchased ever since his marriage, except two or three years. He first built a log house in which they lived until the present one was built. They have had nine children, four of whom are yet living: Louisa, wife of Dr. Scanland (see sketch); Alma, married, and has one child; he served four years during the late war, was wounded three times, and now resides at Colorado Springs; Nephi Jaques served in the Tenth Illinois Cavalry two years and has since died, leaving two children; Rachel, who married Mr. Scanland, and has three children living; George, married, and has two children; Wallace W., married. Mr. Jaques has always been an Andrew Jackson Democrat, and now votes the Peoples ticket, as he is now a member of that party, although he voted for Andrew Jackson. He has been engaged in general farming all his life, and he and his wife are greatly respected by all who know them.
