Note:   (Research):ELLIOTT HISTORY FROM 1710 Present Surnames included are: Elliott, Pike, Manning, Settle, Clarvoe,Thompson, Beaver, Reardon, Leake, Jenkins, Kendrick, Wilheight, Yager, Mattingly, Wilhoit, Simms, Shircliff, Walker, Mills, Hackett. This is a story with no beginning, and I will attempt to construct some form which is easy to understand by anyone who reads it. The story has been revised a number of times over the years since it was first started by myself and my Sister, Jane. The earliest ELLIOTT that I can verify as a descendant is MATTHEW ELLIOTT, his birth is listed in St. Mary's County, Maryland in [circa] 1710. This ancestor ELLIOTT was discovered by my cousin Keith Carter, who lives in the State of Maryland, and he has done extensive research there. MATTHEW ELLIOTT was married to a lady named Laura Ann, no last name was found. Their children were as followed: Daughters: Mary, Susanna, Ann, and Elinor, the Sons were: Stephan T. born in 1767, Matthew, no date on him, and then my direct descendant, JAMES ELLIOTT, who was born in 1773, James married a women by the name of ELEANOR ANN LEAKE. Eleanor was know as Annie, in fact, this is what is on her tombstone, in parenshases. James and Eleanor are buried in Ralls County, Missouri, but I could not locate a Cemetery for a number of years. When I finally went to Frankford, Kentucky in 1976, I found out the location of these graves was in St. Paul's Cemetery in Ralls County, Missouri. Jane and I drove quite a few miles trying to locate this Cemetery, but after walking threw a lot of them, and also getting lots of chiggers, we located the St. Paul's Cemetery. A suggestion for you, if you are looking in old cemeteries, you should use a lot of insect repellent, because you have to walk in a lot of weeds and grass. Another thing that made our search difficult was the County Line of Ralls County changed in 1831, so some records stating Ralls, is now Monroe County. The children that I have located for JAMES AND ELEANOR ANN ELLIOTT that were born in Washington and Scott County, Kentucky were as follows: John, born in 1802, Eleanor, 1805, James, July 2, 1811, Elizabeth, 1812, STEPHAN EDWARD, our ancestor, he was born January 15, 1816, and died April 26, 1863, Mary Susan, June 30, 1819, Robert, no date, Mariah, no date on her either. When STEPHAN EDWARD ELLIOTT, was thirteen years old, he traveled with his family in a wagon train to the State of Missouri, there were also other ELLIOTT families in the same wagon train. This was in the year 1929, and the families all settled along Salt River. ANNA SAVILLA MANNING, was in the same wagon train, with her Step-Father, JOHN ELLIOTT, brother of STEPHAN EDWARD ELLIOTT, and her Mother, MARY MANNING CLARVOE ELLIOTT. It was hard to figure out the relationship of these two brothers, JOHN and STEPHAN EDWARD ELLIOTT. I will attempt to show the connection to the various families, in the middle or possibly the late 1700's, a lady named MARY CLARVOE, the daughter of HENRY AND SARAH CLARVOE, married JOHN JAMES MANNING. MARY CLARVOE was known primarily as "Betsy", she was born in Maryland, records state it was in 1804, she lived only until 1836. JOHN JAMES and MARY CLARVOE MANNING had one child together, a daughter named ANNA SAVILLA MANNING, she was born June 1, 1824. When JOHN JAMES MANNING Died at an early age, it left MARY MANNING a widow with a small child , alone in the State of Kentucky. I cannot find a date on her second marriage, this was to JOHN ELLIOTT, but it was probably around 1825. ANNA SAVILLA MANNING, along with her Mother, MARY MANNING, and her Step-Father JOHN ELLIOTT, and all of her half-brothers, and half-sisters. struck out across the wilderness in the Spring of 1829, and arrived with the other ELLIOTT families in the same wagon train, settling in Ralls County, Missouri, ANNA SAVILLA MANNING was only 5 years old at this time. Some of the records state that JOHN AND STEPHAN EDWARD ELLIOTT families were not related, but through my research and census records, I found out that they are really brothers, both Sons of JAMES AND ELEANOR LEAKE ELLIOTT When all of these ELLIOTTS settled along Salt River, they established a town called ELLIOTTSVILLE, it was small and it was located in Monroe County, Missouri. JOHN AND MARY CLARVOE [MANNING] ELLIOTT'S children after the move to Missouri, were: John Clarvoe, September 1, 1830, Stephan B. December 6, 1831, Sarah Elizabeth, 1835, Ann C. 1833. I also discovered two brothers who were born before the move to Missouri, their names were James Henry, December 13, 1826, he married Murial Kendrick in 1852, and he died March 10, 1902. The last one that I could find information on was: William Harper, born September 1, 1828, he married Mary Botts, both of them having been born in Scott County, Kentucky. MARY CLARVOE MANNING ELLIOTT, Lived until March 2, 1836. MARY CLARVOE MANNING ELLIOTT'S death, required ANNA SAVILLA MANNING, as the oldest child to raise her younger brothers and sisters in her Mother's place, then at the age of 15, ANNA SAVILLA MANNING, married my direct descendant STEPHAN EDWARD ELLIOTT, he was 23 years old at the time. After STEPHAN and ANNA SAVILLA ELLIOTT were married, they raised all of the children of Mary and John ELLIOTT, until adulthood, this is verified in the census records of 1840-1850. . James Henry Elliott, a son of John and Mary Manning Elliott, married Murial Kendrick, daughter of J. J. and Isabel Mudd Kendrick, and their children were John D. February 2, 1853, he died March 30, 1936, he married a lady named Martha S., I have no last name on her. Then came William H., Edward F., I have no dates on either one of these Sons. Robert H. was born May 27, 1861, and he married Anna M., no last name on her either, next there was a daughter, Jennie, this is all I know about her. The next daughter born was Mary, in 1857, she married a Son of STEPHAN and ANNA SAVILLA ELLIOTT, his name was William Henry Elliott, he was born July 28, 1851. Daughter Cordelia Elliott, married Robert F. Elliott, born August 15, 1860, he also was a son of STEPHAN and ANNA SAVILLA ELLIOTT, Robert F. died March 26, 1880. William Henry and Mary [Elliott] Elliott are buried at St. Stephan's Cemetery in Monroe City, Missouri, they are buried in a above ground vault, and you can see the caskets through the door. My Aunt Margie, my Dad's Sister, told me that she often wondered why her Aunt Mary's babies always died soon after birth, but when she asked her Mother about it, she was told not to worry about it, William Henry and Mary [Elliott] Elliott were first cousins, plus William Henry's Mother, was also the daughter of Mary [Elliott] Elliott's Grandmother, I do not know how to put this kinship together. William Henry and Mary [Elliott] Elliott's children are buried in Brush Creek Cemetery in Ralls County, Missouri, these children were named Agnes, Paul, and one stone only says Baby Elliott. The oldest was about a year old, the others looked as if they were stillborn. As can be seen, the relationship was probably a factor in their deaths. STEPHAN and ANNA SAVILLA MANNING ELLIOTT'S children were: the oldest was a daughter Sarah J., born in 1845, she married William Kendrick, my direct descendant was next, he was JOHN MANNING ELLIOTT, he was born in 1846 and died in 1900, then came Martha A. June 11, 1856, she married William Thomas Hawkins, Frances 1849, married Robert Hager, William Henry, July 28, 1851, this is the one who married MARY [ELLIOTT] ELLIOTT, Stephan E. January 20, 1852, and he died April 28, 1869. Alice, 1855, married Benjamin Whitecotten Angelina, 1857, James Benedict, 1858, married a lady named Rebecca, no last name on her, Robert F. born August 1860, he married Cordelia Elliott, and he died March 26, 1880. I have not discovered what caused the death of Stephan Edward Jr. at the age of 17, but it was probably and accident of sorts, or disease. JOHN MANNING ELLIOTT, my direct descendant was a hard person to research, and it took a number of years to discover his first name was John, not Manning, which is all he was ever called during his lifetime, he is buried in an unmarked grave in Holy Rosary Cemetery, in Monroe City, Missouri, JOHN MANNING ELLIOTT is buried on the same lot as William and Mary [Elliott] Elliott. I discovered this when I wrote to the Cemetery board and inquired about his burial plot. JOHN MANNING ELLIOTT, married MARTHA W. SETTLE, she was the daughter of ELIZABETH MARTHA and GEORGE SETTLE. The original spelling of SETTLE was SUTTLE, and was changed in Kentucky by GEORGE'S Ancestors. GEORGE'S first wife's name was Julia Blue, and after she died he married ELIZABETH MARTHA JONES, she was a widow with three small children, GEORGE and ELIZABETH were married on January 8, 1846, ELIZABETH was born in 1803, and she died July 31, 1886, she is buried in Demoss Cemetery in Ralls County, Missouri. ELIZABETH is buried beside of her daughter, MARTHA SETTLE ELLIOTT, wife of JOHN MANNING ELLIOTT, back in those days, if the wife was not a Catholic, she could not be buried beside of her husband. I spent a lot of time looking for MARTHA, I wrote letters and researched at the library, she was really hidden from the rest of the family, and her only crime was that she was not a Catholic. It seems as if there existed a lot of discrimination in the 1880's, due to religion, and possible because JOHN MANNING ELLIOTT was a Slave Trader and Dealer, before the Civil War, and he also owned Slaves, records state about six at a time. STEPHAN EDWARD ELLIOTT married ANNA SAVILLA MANNING on July 2, 1839, and then he died April 26, leaving his widow with children whose ages were: 18, 17, 12, 11, 8, 7, 6, 5, and 3. ANNA SAVILLA ELLIOTT lived to be 88 years old, and she died on August 17, 1912, ANNA SAVILLA raised all of her children, plus the orphans left by her Mother, MARY CLARVOE ELLIOTT. STEPHAN AND ANNA SAVILLA MANNING ELLIOTT are both buried in St. Paul's Cemetery in Ralls County, Missouri. JOHN MANNING ELLIOTT was born in 1846, he is my direct descendant, he was a farmer and dealer in livestock, records state that he was also a slave trader, and owned a few slaves. MARTHA WILHEIGHT [SETTLE] ELLIOTT was born October 7, 1847, I have not found a record of their marriage, but their children were as follows: Rosalee, born in 1867, she married Joel Gray, then came Angeline, born 1870, she married a Kendrick, then our direct ancestor, WILLIAM HENRY ELLIOTT, married AGNES MATILDA PIKE, she was the daughter of WILLIAM JOSEPH and ELIZABETH MARTHA [YAGER] PIKE. My ancestor, AGNES MATILDA, was born March 9, 1873, and she died on her 72nd birthday on March 9, 1945. WILLIAM HENRY ELLIOTT died May 12, 1922, the next child born to JOHN MANNING and MARTHA [SETTLE] ELLIOTT was George Thomas, born 1875, and the last was Ernest, born in 1878. JOHN MANNING ELLIOTT lived until 1900, MARTHA [SETTLE] ELLIOTT, died on July 31, 1886, at the age of 39, leaving behind children ages, 8, 11, 14, 16, and 19. WILLIAM JOSEPH PIKE was born December 7, 1827, the son of BERNARD and MARY [SHIRCLIFF] PIKE, MARY was the daughter of JOSEPH A. and ELIZABETH [WALKER] PIKE OF Nelson County, Kentucky. When WILLIAM JOSEPH was quite young, and he was also the oldest child of 13 children, his Father, BERNARD moved the family.to Meade County, Kentucky, and there he continued his occupation as a farmer, this is where WILLIAM JOSEPH PIKE, became a farmer too, following in the example of his Father, in Meade County, Kentucky, until he came to Missouri in the Spring of 1853. On WILLIAM JOSEPH PIKE'S arrival in Ralls County, he got a job at Yager's Mill, the man who hired him was ELIJAH YAGER. Acquaintances only knew him as ELIJAH, but his full name was FRANCIS ELIJAH YAGER, his birth date has never been located by me, possibly it was around 1816, I do know that he was born in Washington County, Kentucky, the son of NICHOLAS and ELEANOR [MATTINGLY] YAGER. FRANCIS ELIJAH YAGER, married ELIZABETH SIMMS, Father of ELIZABETH SIMMS was SAMUEL SIMMS, and her Mothers name I have not found yet, ELIZABETH SIMMS also a native of Washington County, Kentucky, she was of English descent, this branch of the Simms family coming to America in Colonial Times with Lord Baltimore, and landing in Maryland. The Male members of the Simms family fought in the Mexican War, and the War of 1812. FRANCIS ELIJAH YAGER was the Grandson of NICOLAS YAGER, born in 1735, and SUSAN [WILHOIT] YAGER. this NICHOLAS YAGER arrived from Germany in 1713, and settled in Culpepper County, Virginia, he also served in the Colonial War, and was a pioneer in the wilds of Kentucky. NICHOLAS is buried in Calvary Cemetery in Lebanon, Nelson County, Kentucky. Around the year 1834, FRANCIS and ELIZABETH SIMMS YAGER took their family and left Kentucky, they struck out across the wilderness to Illinois, and settled in Hancock County, Illinois. The YAGER family lived in the State of Illinois until the Spring of 1842, then they took their family once again, and traveled West, to a settlement in Missouri. This Settlement was called Indian Creek, and was located in Monroe County, which had been formally been part of Ralls County, Missouri. Their children were: the oldest Son, William Yager, he was born in Washington County, Kentucky before the family moved, then cam Benedict, who was born in Meade County, Kentucky, on January 11, 1832, and records state that Benedict remained a bachelor all of his life, he learned the Milling business from his Father, and also he was a well respected citizen of the Indian Creek Township. The other children of FRANCIS who died in 1864, and ELIZABETH YAGER she died after living to be 81 years, she died in September of 1889, I have not located their graves, but the records state that they were buried and died in Monroe County, Missouri. After the move to Illinois children born were; ELIZABETH MARTHA YAGER she was born August 14, 1835 in Hancock County, Laharpe Illinois, she married WILLIAM JOSEPH PIKE, ON October 8, 1853, and she died april 17, 1916. These two are my direct ancestors. After Elizabeth there were other children listed, Mary Yager, she married John Woolfork, and she died in 1895, the next were Nicholas Yager, no birth date on him, then Samuel Yager, born January 5, 1841, he was also born in Laharpe, Illinois, Samuel married Cornellia Buckles on September 27, 1864. Harry Yager, who was the sixth child, he fought as a Union Soldier in the late part of the Civil War, and gave up his life soon after the surrender of Vicksburg, he was in Company I, 13th Infantry. Bernard Yager, made his home in Monroe City, Missouri, and in October of 1894, he engaged in business with his Son George Yager, and the business was known as Yager and Son. I have no information on the last of the children, just their names, Sarah, Catherine Yager. ELIZABETH MARTHA YAGER married WILLIAM JOSEPH PIKE on October 18, 1853, the children born to them were: Mary Elizabeth, born August 20, 1854, she married on September 10, 1872 to John H. Montgomery, Mary was called "Molly" all of her life. Next was Cordelia Ellen, born July 8, 1856, she married James S. Montgomery, everyone called Cordelia "Delia". William Henry, born October 16, 1858, John Francis, November 1, 1862, he married Amelia Reush on May 19, 1885, he died January 4, 1944. Martha Jane, was born November 4, 1860, and she married James Williams. The records state that Cordelia Ellen and Martha Jane lived together after they were both widowed, and then when Cordelia died March 8, 1935, Marther Jane died within 24 hours of her Sister on March 9, 1935. There was a double funeral held and the two Sisters were buried at the same time. James Madison Pike, was born on April 19, 1867, he married Alice Miles, and he died January 30, 1900, Theresa Frances, born October 3, 1864, we all knew her as Aunt Trese, she married Valentine Rupp on August 10, 1884, she died sometime after my Grandmother AGNES MATILDA [PIKE] ELLIOTT. I do not think it was many years later, but I do remember Aunt Trese at Grandma Elliott's wake, she straightened Grandma's hair and smoothed it back, and also straightened her dress, while she lay in the casket. As it was the custom back then, my Grandmother was taken to her house to lie in state for three days, I remember my cousins and my Sister Carolyn and I sitting on the kneeling bench in front of the casket, and playing games there. I think it was only about 5 or 6 grandchildren then, I do not know where Aunt Trese is buried. Mary Magdelene was born on March 21, 1871, she was called Aunt Meg by everyone, she married Franklin Williams on May 30, 1900, I think that her husband died before I was old enough to remember him, because I remember helping to decorate his grave at the cemetery in Indian Creek, St. Stephan's Cemetery. when we went there with Grandma Elliott and her sister, Meg. On one occasion Aunt Meg, really laughed a lot at my sister, Carolyn and I, because she told us to decorate all the graves, and we even decorated the stone with her name on it. She had a stone beside of her husbands. We always called her Aunt Meg, she was a little women, and very cheerful all the time. Aunt Meg and her husband had a Son named Benjamin Williams, and a daughter, named Frances, she married John Smith. I can remember when I was very young, of visiting at Aunt Meg's, she lived in the country, west of Indian Creek, Missouri. It was not too many years after this that her Son, Benjamin was struck by lightning, in the Cow pasture at their home, Ben still lived with his Mother on the family farm, after his Dad died. This happened one night when Ben had went out to check on the livestock during a electrical storm, and when Aunt Meg heard the lightning strike, she knew it had hit something, so she ran out to the barn lot, and she found Ben buried in the mud, upside down. Only the soles of his boots were visible, because they had white soles on them. I have said previously that Aunt Meg was a small women, and Ben was a big six foot man, but she pulled him from the mud and dragged him all the way to the back of the house, where the water pump was situated, and then she tried pumping water on him, in an attempt to revive him, but to avail. Ben was struck from the top of his head to the bottom of his boots. I do remember this happening very clear, I was only 5 years old, but it was a vivid and lasting memory, as Aunt Meg showed all of the kids who were there for the visitation the clothes that he had on at the time. . Aunt Meg took us all out and showed us Ben's clothes hanging on the water pump, they were ripped into, even his boots were there. A lot of the people who came to Aunt Meg's for the visitation, would go and lean over the casket trying to see the hole in Ben's head, that the lightning had caused, the casket was in the front of some windows. All of the kids who were there, sat in the room where the casket was at, so I never missed anything that happened, Ben was buried in St. Stephan's Cemetery, beside of his Dad, he had never married. Aunt Meg's daughter, Frances Williams and her husband John Smith, had numerous children and lived on the farm with her Mother. I remember how different ones referred to them as Frankie and Johnny, like the song. We finally come to my Grandmother, AGNES MATILDA PIKE, born March 9, 1873, and she died on her birthday March 9, 1945, she was the ninth child of WILLIAM JOSEPH and ELIZABETH MARTHA [YAGER] PIKE. She was married to WILLIAM HENRY ELLIOTT, he was born June 5, 1872, the son of JOHN MANNING and MARTHA [SETTLE] ELLIOTT and then he died in 1922, he had a massive Heart Attack. My Grandmother, Agnes kept company with William for almost ten years, before they got married on February 14, 1900, she was 27, and he was 28, which was old back in the 1900's. William died of a Heart Attck, at the family farm, he was only 50 years old, so they did waste a lot of years, before they started to raise their family. Following her husband's death, Grandma Elliott either broke her ankle or her foot when she jumped off the back of a hay wagon, she refused to seek Medical attention, and it never healed. She walked on the side of her foot, using a cane, the rest of her life, it was her left leg, and it also had a open sore on it, and she kept an old rag tied around it, the open sore healed in the hospital before she died, Mother told me about it. My Grandma was a cold unaffectionate person, I should remember more about her, but the only attention that she ever paid to any of her Grandchildren was to hit them on the top of the head, she never offered a hug or anything. When she combed her hair which was still black, never grey, it hung down to the floor, and she would comb it down from the top of her head, to the floor, and then she would twist it up in a knot on top of her head, it looked scary to me. We lived down on Griffith Street when we were growing up, and Grandma lived up on Locust Street on the hill, it was about 6 blocks straight down the hill from her house, and my sister, Carolyn and I could see her coming down the hill to our house, she picked Dandelion greens all the way down the hill. Grandma Elliott looked very odd coming down the hill, because she always wore her dress over the top of her nightgown, she did sort of scare Carolyn and I sometimes. Our Sister, Jane, never got to know Grandma Elliot because she was not born until 11 days after Grandma died in March of 1945, Grandma Elliott died on the 9th of March, and Jane was born on the 20th. Our Dad named Jane after her two Grandmothers Agnes Matilda and Sarah Jane Thompson, so she was named Agnes Jane Elliott. WILLIAM HENRY and AGNES MATILDA [PIKE] ELLIOTT had seven children: Margaret Martha, born December 31, 1900, she remained single all of her life, Aunt Margie raised her Sister's Son, William Elmer Morrison after Grandma Elliott died. Rosemary was next, she was born August 12, 1903, she was a School Teacher for awhile, and she wanted to become a Nun, but her Mother would not allow it, since her Dad had died, she was probably needed at home, where the older children had to help. After she had taught in the School for awhile, the School Board decided to let her go, because they could not keep her teaching, any longer. Dad said she was sick before the School Board let her go. She went to bed and refused to get up again. Aunt Rosemary died on May 27, 1924, records state she died of Tuberculosis, but my Dad always said that he thought she had died of a broken heart, because she wanted to be a Nun so bad. My Dad, CARL MANNING ELLIOTT, the oldest Son, was born November 16, 1905, and he died October 14, 1971, while helping his Son-in-law, Allie Witthouse remodel their home. The scaffold on which they were standing broke, and Dad fell on his left side, 15 feet down, mostly on his hip. He had numerous internal injuries also, and lived only 12 days, he fell on October 2, 1971. CARL MANNING married our Mother, MARY VONETA [THOMPSON] ELLIOTT on April 6, 1929. My Mother MARY VONETA was born on August 16, 1909, the daughter of FRED LUCY THOMPSON, and SARAH JANE [BEAVER] THOMPSON, and my Mother, lived to be 91, and died the day after her birthday on August 17, 2000. The next child born was Paul Allan, he was born March 3, 1908, he married a widow named Isabelle Smith, they had two children, a Son, William, and a daughter Patricia. Uncle Paul died November 10, 1974, but he had been in ill health for a number of years. Then came Angela Josephine, born on October 26, 1910 she married a man named Elmer Ray Morrison on November 5, 1929, they had one Son, William Elmer, born in 1930. Elmer Ray left Aunt Angie when there baby was very small, the story that I can remember being told was that Elmer Ray had another women. Aunt Angie was staying at her Mother's house before she died, on May 18, 1931. Grandma Elliott took over the care of Billy, until she died in March of 1945, then Aunt Margie resumed the responsibility. The last daughter born was Edna Agnes, born on December 5, 1910, she married Thomas William Carter on February 8, 1935, they had three Sons: Neil Thomas, Gary Joseph, and William Allan. Aunt Edna died on May 5, 1977, after having suffered from lymphoma for quite awhile she was only 64 years old. The last Son born was Everett William, he was born March 15, 1914, and he died March 2, 1998. Uncle Everett married Eva Martin, she was always called Aunt Red, by all of her nieces and nephews, because she had bright red hair, and Uncle Everett called her Red, when they were young. Many years later, he started calling her Eva, but she will always be Aunt Red to most of the nieces and nephews who knew her years ago. Uncle Everett and Aunt Red had one daughter, her name was Judy Kay Elliott, she married a man named Beard, I do not know his first name. Judy had two Sons. CARL MANNING ELLIOTT and MARY VONETA [THOMPSON] ELLIOTT had three daughters, MARY CAROLYN, was born on May 2, 1931, and she married John J Gilbert on September 1, 1951. John and Carolyn had ten children, they are: Katherine Joann, born November 26, 1952, Lori, born and died October 22, 1954, Karla Kay, born November 8, 1955, Janita Ann, born September 23, 1957, Sheri Lea, born March 14, 1959, John Michael, born July 3, 1961, James Gerard, August 23, 1963, Timothy Jay, born December 21, 1964, Joseph Mark, born June 23, 1969. and the last child born was Ginny Rae, born and died on December 22, 1972. John and Carolyn have a lot of Grand Children, and Great Grand children, but I am not going to attempt to name them all here. Next was myself, SHIRLEY ANN ELLIOTT, I was born on March 23, 1933, I married John David Sherman on February 17, 1956, prior to this time, I was married to another man. John and I have four children, Carl Andrew, he was named after my Dad, CARL ELLIOTT, Andrew was born on July 22, 1954, John adopted Andrew when he was five years old, and we changed his name to Sherman. I hope anyone reading this History on OUR ELLIOTT FAMILY, can get some information that they might need. It has taken Jane and I quite a few years to research this history, at Libraries, Cemeteries, Historical Society of Missouri, Census Records, Death Records, Marriage Records, and I spent a week in Frankfort, Kentucky at the Historical Society in 1976. Books researched were: Biographical Records of Monroe and Shelby Counties, and the Portrait and Biographical records of Ralls, Pike, and Marion counties of Missouri. 1883-1884. also all the old newspapers in the Library, which was not put on microfilm until after we spent years with the old papers. We researched Marriage records in the records books at the Library, this was started in 1973, and a lot of the obits were from the old original papers. Missouri Historical Society, and a lot of Cemeteries.
