a. Note:   In the 1841 census of Radstock he is living with his mother and her new husband, Tom Cole and his grandparents, Maggs. In 1851 census he lists his birthplace as Kilmersdon. William started working in the mines age 12. In the 1851 census he is living with his grandmother, Hannah Maggs. In the 1861 census he and Elizabeth are living at Vipers Corner, Clandown in Midsomer Norton. Her parents, George and Priscilla Read live next door. In the 1881 census they lived at New Buildings, Dunkerton and in 1891 they were living in Butter Buildings in Radstock (and Firgrove nr. Carlingcott). Family legend says he had a problem with the bottle. See commentary by Olive Stockwell.
