Christian Gottfried (Godfrey) Kasebier Born circa 1718/1720 in Wittgenstein (now Germany which was not a country with that name until 1848). Died after 1774 probably in Berks County, Colony of Pennsylvania. Godfrey lived in Colebrookdale Township, Berks County, PA in 1752. Godfrey's half sister Anna Marie Bossart and her husband Andrew Eschenbach lived nearby. Godfrey married Agnes Corleene [Kerling], the daughter of Peter Kerling and Mary Cloud, on 22 February 1739 in Christ Church, Philadelphia, PA. She was born about 1723 in Hunterdon/Sussex Co. New Jersey and died about 1775. It is thought that the Indian attacks and massacres (scalping parties within 35 miles of both New York City and Philadelphia, which occurred in 1756 probably forced Godfrey and his family to move to New Jersey. His brother Christian Gottlieb Kasebier was killed by Indians in this year. Godfrey owned 35 acres and nine horses in Knowlton Township, Sussex County, Colony of New Jersey. He served in the Revolutionary War for which his wife Agnes received a Revolutionary War Widow's Pension (See White's Genealogical Abstracts of Revolutionary war Pension Files -- Microfilm #251) Godfrey served in the Revolutionary War out of New Jersey. Godfrey and his wife probably had one more daughter than is listed below. He and Agnes were sponsors on 28 December 1751 at the baptism of a child with the last name of "Gilham" indicating that they had a daughter who married a Gilham. One other possible son-in-law includes a Mr. Daughty. Godfrey, Robert Daughty, and Sara Casebier were sponsors on 28 December 1751 of Maria Delaplain while upon her deathbed, after making public profession of her faith. [A baptism and a conversion all on the same day.] Maria, the wife of the Quaker Joshua Delaplain, was 33 years old. Baptised at the same time were Maria's children: Joshua (12); John (10); Joseph (7); and Hannah (1 year 8 months). Reba Kemery says that Maria was most likely Agnes' sister, and named for their mother Mary Cloud. Sara Casebier is an "unknown"--she could be the oldest daughter of Godfrey and Agnes --aged about 11or "Sara" could be a nickname of Agnes.
