Notes
a. Note:   James William Carroll was pot out for adoption after his father, Phillip Carroll of Pictou Town deserted the family by sailing out of Pictou never to return. It was reported that he settled in Portland, Oregon.
James William was adopted by Daniel and Susan MacGregor who operated a farm at Black Point, Pictou Co. Susan maiden name was McQueen. Dan and Susan called James William, Willie MacGregor. In 1900 when Willie was 17 years old he moved from the farm to take a job at thr Trenton Steelworks. He took back his birth name James William Carroll. Most people refered to him as Bill Carroll.
In 1906 Bill and Maggie were married in the Methodist Church in New Glasgow. Maggie's parents had to give written approvol because Maggie was 19 years old. Apparently you required permission if you were under 21 years during this period.
He and his wife, Maggie Wheeler, had a very fine house built for them in Abercrombie, Pictou County. They raised a family of 12 children, 6 boys and 6 girls. After the passing of first Bill Carroll in 1963 and Maggie in 1968 the house was kept in the family with the youngest child Nancy and her husband John Turner raising their children Larry and Jane in this home. This house is refered to as "The Old Homestead" by many decendants of Bill and Maggie Carroll. Nancy and John Turner are always very hospitable to family members and their freinds as they travel to Nova Scotia and visit Pictou County.
