Note: Charles Eidemiller was the 1st mayor of Kansas City, MO [1870] OBITUARY [Troy Daily News 03/15/1919]: CHARLES EIDEMILLER ANSWERS LAST ROLL CALL SPIRIT OF CIVIL WAR VETERAN TAKES FLIGHT AFTER MUCH SUFFERING BRAVELY BORNE - WAS FIRST MAYOR OF KANSAS CITY Suffering a stroke of paralysis on last Friday, Charles Eidemiller, lingered until 4:40 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, corner of West Main and North Elm streets. Mr Eidemiller had been in poor health of the last three years. He was born in the house where he died on March 23, 1846, and on October 6, 1867, he was married to Miss Anna McDowell, who died thirty-four years ago. He is survived by these children, Mrs Etta Johnson, Mrs Bessie Young, Miss Pearl Eidemiller and Jesse Eidemiller, all of Troy, a brother, Christopher Eidemiller, of this city, five grandchildren and one great grandchild. Mr Eidemiller was a member of Company F, 71st Regiment, O V I, and he served for four years, three months and three days during the Civil war. He had the honor of serving under his father, Lieut General Nicholas A Eidemiller. The son was promoted for bravery and after being made a sergeant he established a record of never being away from his post of duty throughout the rest of the war. Mr Eidemiller also had the distinction of being the first mayor of Kansas City in 1870. He and his brother, Alexander Eidemiller, had gone to Kansas City where they were engaged in the grocery business. While residing in that city Mr Eidemiller became acquainted with the celebrated outlaw, Jesse James and his brother, and frequently during his later years he gave graphic pictures of the many crimes which these brothers commited. Returning to Troy Mr Eidemiller and his brother conducted a grocery in the room now occupied by Scholl's store, He was also engaged as a contractor for many years and under his supervision all the bridge abutments on the Baltimore and Ohio branch from Troy to Piqua, were built. He was a member of Coleman Post, G A R, the membersof which will have charge of the funeral services to be held at 1:30 o'clock Friday afternoon at the residence with R ev H L Meister in charge. Burial will be made in Rose Hill cemetery. He was a member of the First Lutheran church.
