Actually Stephen is my great grandmothers father's brother. His name is Berry Talley. Her name is Margarett Talley. There was an article printed in the Chatanooga Free Press on May 4th and May 11th, 1997 about the two brothers. I'm going to send for the article. It will be valuable information for you. Somewhere the two brothers lost contact for whatever reasons. I do know that Stephen was married to Polly Pool (nickname) and she died in 1829 he then married Eliza who was 28 years his junior. They had 5 siblings according to the article. He was in the Civil War under Andrfew Jackson and also fought at the William Creek Indian War. Take care and good luck. Judy Hrischuk (Wooden) [email protected] ************************************************** Linked to : [email protected] (Don King) From : [email protected] To : <[email protected]> Stephen Talley, ID #: I03528 could not have fought in the Civil War under Andrew Jackson as Jackson died in 1845. Judy Hrischuk (Wooden) [email protected] probably means the War of 1812. Jackson was a Major General in that war and Stephen would have been of fighting age, (about 24) in 1812, for both the War of 1812 and the Creek War. Don 804 W. Jan 5, 1852-Jan 1854 Stephen Talley is Coroner of Gordon County, GA., "History of Gordon County, Georgia," Calhoun, GA, Press of the Calhoun Times, ca 1934, p 98. ------ The following information received from Brant Talley in e-mail on 20 Aug 2006 to Don King. "This family for me has been a hard one to follow. No one in my family whom I interviewed ever knew about this 2nd family. I talked to some old Talley's back in the 1970s Stephen and Eliza Brown were married in 1830. They were married in Laurens Co..South Carolina. Stephen's 1st wife died in 1829. Stephen was awarded land in Georgia for his service in the War of 1812, so he moved his family to Georgia. I believe the land he was awarded was in Gwinnett or Fayette Cos. The land he had here in Gordon Co. was bought. I believe he came to Gordon in late 1837. His land was near what is now called Reeve's Station. This area now is still rural and is very beautiful to look at. It has a river (The Oostanaula) and some very nice farms. Stephen and Eliza lived here until his death in 1872.I do not know where they buried him. Maybe on his property or at a place very near to his farm called the Miller/Reeves Cemetery. The Millers and Reeves were good friends to the Talley's and in some cases they even married into the family. So he may be buried there, we will probably never know, His grave is now unmarked. His land now is corn fields or pulp wood lumber land. By 1875,Eliza had become destitute. She had one Child (Mary) still living at home. I have an original letter where she asked the county for support. They came to her house and granted it to her. I really don't understand this. There were probably 50 family members from Stephen's1st marriage that lived within walking distance of Eliza. You would think that they would have helped her? There must have been some kind of problem between the two families. I have found very little interaction between them. On April 8 1877,Eliza Talley sold her land to Osborne Reeves. Amos Talley had come back from Rockdale Texas to get his mother. Robert,Henry,Chesley and Amos all had moved there. Eliza lived there until her death in 1900. Robert Talley(ca.1831)I know he lived in Rockdale, TX. 1880 Don't know what happened after that? John Talley(ca.1832)I know he lived in Gordon Co. 1860. I don't know what happened to him? Andrew Talley(ca1834)I know he was in Gordon Co. in 1860. I don't know after that? Floyd Talley(1836-1912)He lived in Chattanooga, TN. Henry Talley(1838-1895)he lived in Rockdale, TX. Nancy Talley(ca1840)I dont know what happened to her. Harrison Talley(1842-1864)Died at home. He took sick in the service never recovered. Darling Talley(1844-1864)Died shortly after being released from POW camp in Louisville KY Mary Talley(Ca1846)in Gordon Co.1875. Dont know what happened to her. Chesley(ca 1850) last see him in 1880 Milam Co..Texas. Amos(ca1851)last see him 1900 census Montague Co..Texas All information about Stephen I have comes from his war pension files.
