Note:   [Talley Corrections.FTW] 1. Mat and Garrett Talley were made to sleep in the same bed as children. As they grew, no one in the house could get any sleep because they would fight about space, covers, ect... all night long. In order for there to be some peace in the house, Lee had a walnut tree cut on his property and had two identical twin feather beds made. That stopped the fighting. Garrett took his with him when he got married and Mat did the same. Mat's bed stayed on his and Annie's covered back porch until she died in 1972. Carlton Talley, Sr. remembered sleeping on it during the summer as a child. Their son Richard then took it and it stayed in his and Rachael's back room until Richard's death. They were both made so that they wouldn't come apart and there are no nails in them. Only wooden pegs. Maybe 70 percent of the slats were original and not one piece of the bed itself had been altered. 2. His headstone in Fairview Cemetery is incorrect. It lists him as "Matt Charles Talley" His daughter, Lucille Hale paid for and placed the stone. It was a bone of contention in the family for a long time.
