Notes
a. Note:   ed a date in the left side of the page. This was probably the date of baptism and not necessarily the birth. So, the 14 July date may or may not be his actual date of birth, but Ignatz Andreas Allgeier was the 9th and final child of Leonhard Allgeier and Maria Anna Renner. The baptism witnesses were Nicholas Bühler and Maria Anna Schmid. Ignatz represents the fifth generation of the Allgeier family in Gamshurst and like his father and grandfather, Ignatz was a farmer by profession. At the age of 13, he suffered a double tragedy when he lost both his parents in the span of 4 days in 1808. Ignatz was 27 years of age when he married Magdalena Volz in 1823. Nearly nine months after the wedding the first child born to Ignatz Allgeier and Magdalena Volz was his son Octavian Allgeier. Ignatz Allgeier and Magdalena Volz were to later have a total of 9 children, 7 sons and 2 daughters, which included a set of triplets born in December of 1829 and tragically all passed away within 7 days of birth. Ignatz remained in Gamshurst his entire life and is noted in the registry of death as a citizen of Gamshurst. It is interesting to note that his name appears as Ignatz Andreas Allgeier on page 569 of the registery of deaths and he died at the age of 56, husband of Magdalena Volz. The spelling of the surname has many variations during the life span of Ignatz. It was spelled as ALLGEYER in the Taufbuch, or book of baptisms. At the time of his wedding, the spelling took the "Allgaÿer" format which was popular in the early 19th century. And by the time Ignatz passed away in 1852, the common ALLGEIER was used. To keep the integrity of the database, the ALLGEIER format is used for the German ancestors, and the ALLGEYER spelling will be used for the immigrant family members.
