Note: s older brothers Octavian and Clemens and younger brother Patriz emigrated when he saw no future for himself in Gamshurst. Mathias Allgeyer entred the United States through the port of New Orleans on 5 May 1853 at the age of 20. However, it was noted on his Declaration of Intention (page 109, Butler County Ohio Records) that he entered the port of New Orleans on 1 May 1853. He was listed as a laborer according to the passenger list. The ship was named "Jos Holmes". Eventually, Mathias settled in Mercer County Ohio and at the age of 28, he married his first wife (MRIN 512) Barbara Follet. They had a total of four children together before the death of Barbara in 1873. Mathias and Barbara moved to Butler County before the birth of their first child in 1865 and settled in Hamilton, Ohio, where he declared his intention to become a U.S. citizen on 30 August 1862. Then on 11 October 1864, Mathias Allgeyer became a U.S. citizen. Sometime in 1874 he married his second wife, Caroline Leon and the couple had a total of 7 children between 1875-1890. The 1900 U.S. Census indicates that Matthias was residing at 863 Hanover Street in Hamilton and that he was a grocer. His daughter from the first marriage Lizzie was enumerated with the family and every child still alive from the second marriage except William, the oldest who marrried in 1899. Mathias lived there until his death in 1908 and was buried out of Saint Joseph Church and is buried in Saint Stephen Cemetery in Hamilton, Ohio.. On page one of the Saint Stephan Cemetery records, the entry is listed as "Matthias Altgeier". These names appear: 1.) Grand Ma 2.) Mary Ann Allgeyer 3.) Carrie Allegeyer 4.) Joseph Allegeyer 5.) 6.) Matthew Allgeyer 7.) Carolina Allgeyer 1920 8.) Henry Allgier 9.) Joseph Mathias Allgeyer also had a grocery store located at 5th and Cental Avenues in Hamilton, Ohio.
