a. Note:   John is said to have had really blue eyes that twinkled. He was a very quiet man, and didn't talk a whole lot.
 When he did speak though, it was usually worth listening to. He worked at the Guion Silica Sand Mines and
 worked hard to support his family. All except 3 of their children died, likely of the flu epidemics or typhoid.
 John died of TB from working in the mines. He likely told his only son Ray to leave, go west, and not spend
 his life in the mines as it would wind up killing him. He left in 1934 and John died in 1939.
 He lost his daughter Lucy to disease in 1930. His daughter Maxine had married and moved to Colorado
 before he died. Nora went to live with Ray, and upon Ray's death, went to live with Maxine in Pueblo where
 she died in 1959.
