William A. was called Billy. He went to St. Michael's college in Vermont but was expelled for wearing a nun's habit. William A. worked in a gas station in Springfield. This was apparently the way to work your way into the gasoline business in those days. I wonder if he was working in a Sinclair station because my grandfather worked for Sinclair. William A.'s brother Robert put up a monument to William A. after WWII, possibly in Florence, South Carolina.
