  [Daniel Mcdaniel.FBK.FBK.FTW]
Love McDaniel and his wife, Polly Bedsole, owned a productive 640 acre plantation on the South River in Bladen County until they sold and traded for a nice flat river Bottom tract in Cumberland County, near Fayetteville. The purpose of the move was to be closer aligned to the center of commerce and to be nearer the railroad, which during and after the Civil War, became the new method of transporting goods to market. Too, the disruption from the war and the ending of slavery was making it impossible to continue to transport by river in the same style an manner as before.
The railroad running east from Fayetteville, to Wilmington, swept along the North side of the new plantation, and had a station siding and a sidetrack less than a mile away. Located at the station siding were a cotton gin and a general store. This made pickup and delivery to market accessible and convenient. Instead of days, the same work could be accomplished in hours, by horse and wagon. It made for a great place to meet and discuss politics. Soon a school and church were added. It was the beginning of the community of VANDER, sometimes called Sunnyside, Sunnyside School and Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Love's grandfather Archibald McDaniel (aka McDonald in the census) was aveteran of the Revolutionary War. That war service allowed him to buy Tory/Loyalist land at auction after the war.
