Notes
a. Note:   Information from 1871 Census of North Renfrew, sub-district: Algoma.Microfilm c10022 National Archives. 1851 Census of Bristol. C1131. Notes of Laurie Stewart. "...Charles Stewart and Jane Sly are also buried there. (Stewart family cemetary at Golden Lake, Deacon, ON.) I know this because I used to play in it when I was much younger; and I presently owna cottage one mile from it." "Three North Algona Township Cemeteries... Stewart Family Cemetery,Con.V, Lot 17, North Algona Township, Renfrew County, Ont., 1991, OGS publicationnumber 97-12. Barb Taylor: Found your information on the ancastry.com site, as I input this message, charcoal portraits of my G G Grandparents, Charles Stewart and Jane Sly, hang on the wall behind me. I was always told that Charles and Jane had been born at Bristol Que. but I see by your information that he was born in Lanark. I kept finding the 1871 census giving his birth in Ontario, so was not sure if there was an error or not. The census of 1851 shows that Archibald Stewarts oldest son Jamieson was at Bristol, he married a first cousin who was born in Pontiac County Quebec, and moved to Lanark County where he was born, his children were born there . Archibald and Clementine Graham probably moved to Bristol as both may have had family already there (brothers and sisters of their parents). My Grandmother was Mary Eady daugther fo Sarah Ann Stewart (born Golden Lake) and John Eady (born Horton twp). My Grand father was Herbert Baird, son of Cementina Hamilton Stewart and William John Baird ( both born in Quebec, in or around Bristol), she was the daughter of Andrew Complin Stewart. Thought you might like to have this information which may clarify why the Stewart name is prominent in both areas. Some moved out west in the 1890s, my grandparent met when Mary went to visit Stewart cousins in Sask around 1918-19. Regards John Stuart Baird
