Note: My father Hilbert Canon Broadus met my mother Lula Fay Rouse at her home in Lamar County, Mississippi. My father came to my grandfather Chalmers Rouse's farm to ask if he could hunt on Chalmers property, and my grandfather Chalmers said it was okay. That is when my father met my mother. My father was in the tenth grade in school at the time. My mother was three years older
than my father and was in finishing school. This is when my father got ambitious and decided to
get educated and his grades improved. My father wrote a column in the local Purvis newspaper while in high school. After graduating high school, my father went to college at Ole Miss at Oxford, Mississippi.
My father married my mother and he got a job teaching school at Oak Grove, Mississippi, and became
princioal there. My father went on to be elected Tax Accessor for Lamar County, Mississippi. He
eventually worked for an oil company and died of spinal meningetus at the age of 33.
