Note: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ID: I544 Name: Jedediah GARRISON Given Name: Jedediah Surname: Garrison Sex: M Birth: in Duplin Co NC Death: 5 Aug 1829 in Franklin Co.GA Burial: 1829 Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Banks Co GA 1 _UID: 63E6647285864E5FBE39F554F92EBC736D87 Change Date: 5 Jan 2005 at 11:39 Note: From Duplin Co. NC, moved to Greenville Dist. SC. In 1804 they moved to Franklin Co. GA along with eight children. Ther e they lived in a fort with the Meaders family while the Indians were cleared from the area. This is now Banks CO GA. Jedadiah was in the Revolution, presumably with the rebels--no records seen, There is considerable debate on the parentage of Jeddediah. Most internet files give his father as Christopher in New J ersey, and Jedidiah did have a son named Christopher. However, Alan Embrick argues for the James found in NC records: "James GARRETSON Migrated to Carteret and Duplin Counties in North Carolina with a Brother, John GARRETSON, and a Cous in Thomas GARRETSON, where they all began to spell their last name GARRASON. The Sons of Thomas GARRETSON/GARRASON kept the GARRASON Name spelling, BUT the Sons of James GARRASON, (JEDEDIAH and I SAIAH), changed their Name spelling first to GARRATSON, and then to GARRISON. They began to use GARRISON in their Publi c and Civil Papers and Documents. In 1752, James GARRASON was in Carteret County, North Carolina and was Listed on Colonel LOVICH's Militia Roll, under t he Command of Moses HOUSTON, (The Grandfather of Sam HOUSTON, of later TEXAS fame. In the Colonial Muster of Cartere t County, North Carolina, Thirty-nine (39) of the Ninety-three (93) men listed were formally from DELAWARE. The "TAX LISTS" from Early Orange County, North Carolina lists the GARRISON Brothers as living on adjoining land in Ora nge County. JEDEDIAH and his brother ISAIAH GARRISON lived a few miles from their Cousins, the sons of Garret GARRASON , formally of DELAWARE. The First seven (7) of Jedediah's eight Children were born in North Carolina, BEFORE he move d to South Carolina. Sometime After 1786, Greenville, County, South Carolina opened up for Settlement, and Jedediah GARRISON and his famil y moved to the GREENVILLE DISTRICT in South Carolina. In 1790, JEDEDIAH GARRISON was living near the Reedy River, seve ral miles Southeast of Modern Greenville, South Carolina. *****NOTE***** FIRST: Some people (Usually following "Family Tradition") WITHOUT any Research, CLAIM that FIVE (5) GAR RISON BROTHERS arrived in Delaware from SCOTLAND about 1700. PROFESSIONAL RESEARCHERS have Searched Public Records an d have found NO Evidence of GARRISON ever being a Scottish name. HOWEVER, There were GARRETSO's/GARRATSONs living in DELAWARE Long Before 1700, who had arrived from HOLLAND. A SECOND MISTAKE/ERROR: The Christopher GARRISON from New York/New Jersey that some people Claim is the Father of JEDE DIAH was NOT born until 1730/1731, SO HOW CAN HE BE ONE OF FIVE BROTHERS WHO ARRIVED FROM SCOTLAND ABOUT 1700??? Ther e is ALSO NO Evidence that the Christopher GARRISON from New York/New Jersey Ever Left that area. He is NOT Found in A NY North Carolina or South Carolina PUBLIC RECORDS. "
