Note: Settled in Letcher Co. in 1818 when his father settled on Rockhouse Creek, then Clay Co. He was the first Letcher Co. Judge when county was formed in 1842. Served as the County Surveyor and elected to a term in the state Senate. 1850 Letcher Co., KY District 1 Census he was listed as a merchant owning 1,500 acres. (Family #42) States he was born in Virginia and was listed as age 35. Also lists wife Nancy age 33 born in KY, Robert Collins age 35 born in KY, Stephen Logan age 26 born in VA, Elizabeth age 10 born in Ky, and Menerva age 4 born in KY. page 145b. Elected county judge again after war. Often joked he had lived in six counties in Kentucky without moving from one to another.Buried at Colson Cemetery, located on top of point on west side of Rockhouse Creek at mouth of Camp Branch.
