a. Note:   e graduated as Saludatoria from Sandstone High School in the year 1959. In High School she was a cheerleader and Saluditorian. As a young woman she moved to the Detroit Michigan area where she was living with her sister Gerri (Reed) McGraw. It was here that she met James Boatright. He was visiting a relative who happened to be a Gerri's landlady. On their first meeting James asked her out for coffee.
Claudia who was Gerri's landlady retells the story of their meeting: Alfreda had moved up and had been dating a Michigan boy who broke her heart. She had been 'carryin on' all day to Claudia and Gerri. She told Claudia that she was never going to go with a northern boy again, she wanted to find a hilbilly! James, his brother Steve, and Claudia's two daughters, Hellen and Bonnie, had been out to the airport watching planes come in. When James and Steve heard that Alfreda was looking for a hillbilly... James said "I am a hillbilly" to which Steve replied "I'm more of a hillbilly because I am older" James beat Steve to the punch and asked her out to Coffee. Claudia said James 'ran with all kinds of women' before meeting her and never seemed interested in settling down but when he met Alfreda that was it. They were married within 3 weeks. In Gerri's version of the story, Alfreda had come back up to the apartment after the meeting and said 'that old man asked me out for coffee.'
Claudia described Alfreda as so full of energy. Always running up and down the steps and her and Gerri could do anything.
~They started their family in a home in Livonia Michigan. When the third child Tamara was 2 they moved to a much smaller community, Addison Michigan. It was here that her last child was born. Alfreda was very active in her childrens lives. She was a band booster, attended sporting events, was a girl scout leader and soft-ball coach. She made most of her children's clothes. She did work outside of the home for a brief period once her children were all in school at Sir James Outerwear.
Note:   ~Alfreda Mae Reed was born in Sandstone West Virginia where she lived until the age of 18. Sh
