a. Note:   Nancy Hayes and Benjamin Coffey had nine sons. At least six of their sons served the Confederate States of America: Richardson ( b. 1832 TN-d. TN) was in the Company D, 9 Tennessee Infantry, as a Private. Calvin (b. Jun 1839 TN-1926 OK) was in the D 26 Tennessee Infantry. He went in as a Private and was discharged as Sergeant. Calton (b. Jun 1839 TN-Mar 15 1863), he was in Company D, 26 Tennessee Infantry as a private. Marvel ( b.17 Mar 1841, TN-25 Mar 1917 KY) Perry (b. 1844 TN-d.5 Dec 1864 TN) was in Company D, 26 Tennessee Infantry, as a Private. Ausbon (b. 1846 TN-d. 1926 OK). Ausbon was only seventeen when he joined after becoming angry over Union troops destroying their spring beet crop. Calvin, Perry and Richardson died before the end of the war. Their cousins, William W Coffey and Simeon Coffey, also died as results of wounds received in battle. After his twin, Calton died Calvin was wounded and deserted. Marvel was there when Calvin was told to walk slowly and get his leg wound seen about. Marvel said that was the last the family heard of Calvin until he was living in Diamond, Stephens, OK nearly forty years later, via Missouri, Arkansas, and Texas. Ransome Tennessee Coffey (b. 1836 TN-d. 1917 KY) brother of those listed above and his cousins were living in Kentucky when the war began and fought on the Union side. Benjamin didn't live long after moving to KY, he and Nancy Hayes are buried in Maret Cemetery near Wildie. through their son Ransome, there are seven generations of Coffeys buried in the Maret Cemetery.
