1716 Chestnut Street,Alameda was the location of "Tennant's Maternity Hospital'. This was started, owned and operated by Mabel May Evans Tennant. Mabel is the reason my research on this angle started. She was Evan and Rebecca's daughter. This is the location of John Rutherford's death in 1950. This the main major connection that linked John Rutherford to Mabel May Evans Tennant. I deducted that Mabel had to be a niece of John Rutherford's. After a bit further checking, this has proved correct!! Mabel Tennant was the informant on John Rutherford's death
certificate. Since most of the information was correct, I figured she knew him
fairly well. The father of John Rutherford was listed as 'unknown'. One reason
Mabel may not have known his name was that he died in 1861 in Stephen/Usborne
when John Rutherford was only 4. hmmmm.......this leads me to another
thought.....John Rutherford's and Evan's mother, Elizabeth May remarried Thomas
White.....I had best check the surrounding city directories for the "White' name
and see if I can come up with anything...Thanks for spurring this...Anyway, this
is what started the whole thing....all for now. Will look forward to
