Notes
a. Note:   Jacob was a member of the Washington Co., Pennsylvania Militia( 1782-1785).He was in Captain John Cotton's Company. This may be construed as service inthe Revolutionary War... He was a member of the petition for a new state (West Augustus District, VA) to be called Westylvania. Moved to Kentucky and settled in Spencer Co., Kentucky where he died ca 1831. Ohio Co., Virginia is now Washington Co., Pennsylvania-where Jacob was born. In June of 1789, Jacob, Charles Bilderback and his wife-Ruhama (in the District of West Augusta, VA) "went across the river to tend some cattle". Indians captured both Charlesand Ruhama, killing Charles and holding Ruhama for until March of 1790, before she was ransomed and sent home. Jacob was shot through the sholder with an arrow, but managed to escape and get back to the stockade at Wheeling. He recovered and took care of the two little ones of Charles and Ruhama until her return.
