Nancy is likely to have been a twin. Although no document has so far been found that gives Silas' exact birthdate, he and Nancy, born 16 Aug 1827, are likely to have been twins.
Nancy Bemis Butterfield is believed to have been the author of a genealogical chart of her husband's Butterfield ancestry which was tucked into the Goodrich Family Bible, a bible inherited by Ernest Milo Goodrich, husband of Nancy's daughter, Clara. The chart was probably written sometime between 1897 and 1904 and was probably based mostly on genealogical information from George Gordon's "The Butterfields of Middlesex," published in 1890 in the New England Historical and Genealogical Register. A separate list of the children of William and Lucy Butterfield and their b/m/d dates in Clara's handwriting dating from about 1876 was probably copied by Clara from her parents' family Bible shortly after Clara's marriage.
On Tuesday, July 5, 1904, the Corry Evening Journal of Corry, PA, published this death announcement for Nancy Butterfield:
"Mrs. Butterfield died Sunday at 9 1.m. She was aged 77 years, and has lived here for many years, and was highly esteemed by a large circle of friends and acquaintances. She was possessed of rare qualities, of heart and mind and will be greatly missed. The funeral will take place Tuesday at 12 m. [sic] at the M.E. church at W. Spring Creek."
