Walter McKee was a Civil War veteran. He enlisted as a private on 11 Apr 1865 (the start of the War) at the age of 19 and served in Company E. of the 194th NY Infantry Regiment. He was mustered out of the regiment on 3 May 1865, having served for the duration of the War.
When the 1910 U.S. Census was taken, Walter McKee was a 64-year-old widower and lived with his daughter Clara Ransom and her family in Spring Creek Township, Warren County, PA. He married Clara Goodrich, widow of Ernest Milo Goodrich, in 1916. Walter and Clara lived in Canadea Township in Allegany County, NY (where Walter had grown up) when the 1920 U.S. Census was taken.
In February of 1928, Walter applied for a Civil War invalid's pension
Walter died in Canadea Township in 1928 and was buried there in the Caneadea Cemetery. Just a few months before his death, Walter had applied for a Civil War Invalid pension.
