b 1781 at Keene (Goodrich Bible)
Octavia is believed to have married before 1800 because no daughter of her age appears in the John and Abigail Butterfield household in the 1800 U.S. census. When her husband died in 1807, Octavia was about 28 years old and had five young children.
Octavia Case is named as a head of household in the 1810 U.S. census for Putnam, Washington County, NY. She had two daughters in that census, one under 10 years old (Rosetta or Lois?) and another aged 10-16 (Abigail?). Her sons, Ephraim (7) and Nathan (5) are not listed as part of her household. Her parents and her brothers Nathan, Edward, and William also lived in Putnam in 1810.
One genealogy reports that Octavia Case appears as a head of household in the 1825 New York state census. In 1825 Octavia would have been about 46 years old and all of her children would have been grown.
In 1830, Octavia's son, 25-year old Nathan Case, still unmarried, was named head of a household in the U.S. Census for Porter Township, Niagara County, NY. In his household were four females: one aged 50-60 (who may have been his mother, Octavia Case, aged 51); one aged 30-40; one aged 10-15 and one under 5 years. The younger female may have been one of his older sisters, either Rosetta (then about 31) or Abigail (then about 32). Nathan probably moved to frontier Michigan soon after this census, as he is known to have acquired land in Wayne County, MI, in 1835 and married Emeline Parks in Oakland County in 1834. Whether Octavia stayed in New York or also moved to Michigan is unknown.
