His eminent socialqualities of kindness and neighborly acts, hightoned and gentlemanybearing endeared him to all while his inexhaustible vivacity andeccentric humor made him the center of every circle he entered. Hiswas a long and eventful career. He made 13 trips to New Orleans onflat boats and walked back to KY. He saw the first steamboat thatever plowed the waters of the Mississippi make her first landing atNew Orleans. He was for many years a noted bear and deer hunter onthe Green River and until his old age forbade it, he annually pitchedhis camp tent upon the hunting ground. He was one of the lastsurviving soldiers of the War of 1812. he sserved two campaigns oonthe Canadian Frontier under Gov. Shelby and participated in the siegeof Ft. Harrison and the Battle of Tiippecanoe, and saw the deadShawnee Chief, Tecumseh, on the battlefield. He passed away calmlyand peacefully like on drawing the drapery of his couch about him andlying down to pleasant dreams."
