The question about census records concerning Barnabus Batton in 1820 and a J. Batton in 1810. I am looking at what appears to be a land grant (no.230) in Columbus Co.NC to Barnabas Batton for 100 acres, issued17 Dec. 1876. The location was on N. side of Puncheon Branch. At the bottom of the survey explanation, it lists both the name of Joshua &James Batton which I suppose means they were the previous owners of this land.
