Company H, 51 Regiments NC troops, Batten, Daniel - Private Born in Columbus County, where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting in New Hanover County at age of 47, April 2, 1862. Hospitalized at Wilmington on May 19, 1862, with rubeola. Returned to duty in January - February 1863. Discharged on April 10, 1863. After providing Private Edward W Turner as a substitute. BIOGRAPHY: Marriage: Ever W Batten (Daniels son from his first marriage) married Nancy V Penny. on 18 Oct 1868. After the death of both Ever W. Batten (scalded in a vast of boiling water at a hog killing) and Mary J Baldwin, (Daniel J Battens first wife). Daniel J Batten married Nancy V Penny(Ever's first wife) on September 7, 1881, at his home.
