He died in Mount Union while being rushed to the J. C. Blair Memorial hospital at Huntingdon. Coroner E. Blair Shore of Huntingdon county termed death a suicide after an investigation made with Lester Hoover of the state police. While Roy E. Worthy, the father, was absent, the mother, Mrs. Eva (Varner) Worthy and several of her seven children at home, including Raymond, debated the question of whether a daughter, Mary, should quit school. When sentiment apparently favored the girl's action, Raymond entered the house in a rage, slamming and hooking the screen door, the coroner reported. Reappearing with the rifle, Raymond told his mother, "Mum, I'm going to end it all." She called Forrest Horrman, a neighbor, but before he could take the gun from the youth, Raymond fired a fatal shot into his abdomen, the coroner said. Raymond was born Feb. 20, 1933, in Cromwell township, near Orbisonia, and attended Orbisonia schools and the Pentecostal church. He left school in the past year to obtain employment at the Elizabethtown, Pa., Masonic home as a waiter. He is survived by his parents, four sisters and eight brothers.
