Green Sept. 13, 1913 - June 28, 2002 Kenneth O. Green, 88, of Battle Creek and formerly of Clare, passed away on Friday, June 28, 2002 in Battle Creek. Ken was born the son of Christopher and Josephine (Girard) Green Sept. 20, 1913, in Grant Township, Clare County. He married the former Vera I. Jackson Nov. 20, 1935. Ken was a farmer until 1934, when he started working on the road construction as a heavy equipment operator. In 1946, he moved to Battle Creek, where he worked on steel construction until his retirement in 1973. He had been a member of the Operating Engineers Local 324 since 1942. Ken enjoyed being outside, visits from his family and friends, and especially spending time with his dog, Toby. Ken is survived by his wife, Vera; sons Dale L. (Cindy) Green of East Leroy and Randy G. Green of Florida; daughter Darlene K. (Steve) Hueckel of Battle Creek; sisters Iris Brown and Dora Arnold, both of Farwell; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Ken was preceded by sons James and Robert by his brother Pete, and his sisters Mary, Lillian, and Winnie. Services will take place at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, at the Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home in Clare, with Pastor Douglas Blackwell officiating. Burial will be in the Cherry Grove Cemetery in Clare. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Good Samaritan Hospital or Lifespan, 166 E. Goodale Ave., Battle Creek, MI 49017.
