Note: Obituary - Lela G. Sovey Saginaw, Michigan Passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2005 at Cartwright Hospice Residence, age 100 years. Lela Girard was born November 12, 1904 in Bridgeport, Michigan the daughter of the late Samuel and Lillian (Sharpe) Girard. She married Clarence G. Sovey September 12, 1931. He predeceased her in 1974. Lela was a member of the first graduating class of Bay City Central High School in 1923. She was the oldest living member of First Baptist Church in Saginaw, having joined the church in 1939. Prior to her marriage to Clarence she worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Bill Kendall in Bay City for nine years. She began working for Morley Brothers in 1947 and continued there until her retirement in 1967. She was a member of the Martha Washington Chapter, Eastern Star and was a past member of St. Bernard Commandery Auxiliary. Lela is survived by her daughter, Jeanne White, Bay City; a granddaughter, Kathleen (David) Currence; a step granddaughter, Lynne (David) Fitzgibbons; a grandson, David (Christine) White; eight great grandchildren, Kara, Ryan, Dylan, Samuel, D. J., David, William and Thomas; her sisters in law, Avis Sovey and Ethel Sovey; four special cousins, Glenna Williams, Raymond Sharpe, Fay Harris and John Cuthbertson; nieces and nephews, Beverly, Jerry and Craig Sovey and Judy Lougheed; a special friend, Anna Lee Brown and many special members of her church family. She was predeceased by her sister, Edith E. Hess. The funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 6, 2005 in First Baptist Church, 322 N. Jefferson. Rev. Donald C. Verner will officiate and private burial will take place in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at W. L. Case & Co. Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. Wednesday from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. as well as on Thursday at church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
