Note: Obituary - Vern Dixon Sept. 21, 1936-Apr. 12, 2005 Vern Dixon, age 68 of Farwell, passed away on Tuesday, April 12 at Tampa General Hospital. He was born September 21, 1936 in Cheboygan County, Michigan to Roy and Winnie (Chappell) Dixon. He was married to Melba Jean Beavers September 8, 1956 in Farwell. Vern was retired from Dow Chemical Company where he worked as a carpenter. In recent years he provided transportation for Double D Builders, as well as many members of the Amish community. He was a member of Farwell Community of Christ where he served as a deacon. Vern Dixon is survived by his wife, Melba Jean, three sons, Dennis of Gladwin; Mark (Guillermo Salazar) Dixon of Odessa, Florida; and David (Heather) Dixon, of Clearwater, Florida; brothers and sisters, Warren (Carol) Dixon of Farwell, Dorothy (Joe) Manley of Farwell, Nancy (Mike) Thrush of Jacksonville, Florida, Ila (Ken) Kalka of Barryton, and Elmer (Billie) Ketchum of Kalkaska. Also surviving are grandchildren, Chad, Katie, Wyatt, Kellie, and Jared Dixon of Gladwin; and Maxwell Dixon of Clearwater, Florida, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Dixon, step-father, Elmer Ketchum, Sr., his mother, Winnie Ketchum, and brother-in-law, Everett Mitchell. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 16 at 2:00 p.m. at Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home in Clare, with Elders Rodney Colmus and Dick Hunt officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Friday, April 15 from 6:00 p.m., and Saturday following the funeral at Community of Christ in Farwell.
