a. Note:   Parmalee fought in the Cherokee War during the 1830's while living in Henry Co. Ga. Wilmur Smith, author of "A Smith Family", thinks the effort was more of gathering the Cherokee Indians together for transporting to the West. Anyway, after Parmalee died, Nancy applied for and received a pension based on his military service. She had trouble since they had spelled his name wrong in the military records. She finally succeeded however after completing a handful of affida- vits. In these, she verified that his name was Parmalee and that he was about 5'10, sandy hair, fair complexion, and black eyes.
