Notes
a. Note:   Notes for ISAAC CARTER: Isaac Carter, son of Capt. Jesse Carter (Vol. 1), was born in Tattnall County in 1816. He came with his parents to Lowndes County in his boyhood and was married there in 1842 to Miss Rachel Sirmans, daughter of Benjamin Sirmans (Vol 11). She was born in Lowndes County in 1826. Isaac Carter served under Capt. Samuel E. Swilley as a private in the 2nd Regiment, Florida militia, June 16 to Dec. 16, 1837, in the Indian War. He later served as 2nd Sergeant in the militia company commanded by his father, in 1838, in the same war. The Carter home and plantation was three or four miles south of Milltown (now called Lakeland), and Mr. Carter died there in 1853, age 37 years. His widow later married John O'Bryan and had children by him. She died in 1867. She and her two husbands are buried in Union Primitive Baptist Church cemetery near Lakeland.
