Note: Notes for JOHN MITCHELL BOATRIGHT: John Mitchell Boatright was born on February 18,1878 in a section of Pierce County, Georgia which later was cut into Bacon County. He lived in this community, near Coffee, Georgia all of his fife and was engaged in farnfing. He was a son of Cashire "Cash" W. Boatright and his wife, Courtney Martin Boatright John Mitchell was married on February 8, 1906 to Lucinda Carter, daughter of Isaac Carter and his wife Nancy (Harrison) Carter. Mr. and Mrs. Boatright were the parents of nine children: As Mr. and Mrs. Boatright both died before the children were grown and married, they were placed with various family members. For example, Retta Boatright (Mrs. Young) who now resides in Ocilla, Georgia, says she went to five with the family of John H. Smith in Fitzgerald, Georgia. Jack and Gladys were placed with Ms. Kizzie Carter in Alma, Georgia. Mrs. Smith in Fitzgerald and Ms. Carter were relatives of Mrs. Boatright. Ms. Carter's mother had been a Boatright and probably connected on that side of the family as well as the Carter side. Unfortunately, Merle (Boatright) Smith died in 1989 before this sketch was begun. John Mitchell Boatright died on May 8, 1929. It is not known when Lucinda (Carter) Boatright died. They are buried in the Friendship Methodist Cemetery about two miles from Coffee, Georgia and about ten miles east of Alma, Georgia, the latter being the county seat of Bacon County. Several of their children are buried with them in a family plot.
