Note:   Notes for STEPHEN HUNNICUT BAXTER: Stephen Baxter was born in South Carolina about 1790, a son of Stephen Baxter, Sr. The family removed to Tattnall County from Colleton Distret, S.C., with George Carter (Vol. III) and others of that family connection about 1810. Stephen Baxter, the subject, married Rebecca, the youngest daughter of said George Carter; she was born 1794 in Colleton District, S. C. They were married in 1815. Born to them were six children: After living some years in Tattnall County, Stephen Baxter and family moved to Liberty County where he settled near Jones Creek Baptist Church, and he died there in 1866. He and his wife were buried at Jones Creek Church.
