Note: THOMAS DAVIS MANSFIELD c.1756 - 1828 (179) Thomas Mansfield (sometimes referred to as Mansell) was tried in Kingston upon Thames in 1787. He was sentenced to seven years transportation but no details of the crime are available. He arrived in Australia on the Matilda as part of the 3rd Fleet in 1791. He appears to have had a daughter, Hannah, with Anne Bullen in 1803 but there is no record of a marriage. He then had a daughter, Elizabeth, with the convict Ann Sandell in 1805. Once again they do not appear to have married. Thomas did eventually marry Isabella Sidwell in 1807. He was given a grant of 60 acres in 1809. In the Colonial Secretary’s list in 1810 he is shown as being appointed Constable and in the 1814 Muster his occupation is given as Constable. In the 1822 Muster he is listed as “Free by Servitude” meaning that he served his full sentence. His abode at the time of his death is given as “Asylum” and his occupation is given as “carpenter”.
