a. Note:   in 1869, to settle in Olge County Illinois. With his brothers he engaged in stock-farming and began a factory for making wire-tooth horse rakes. They acquired property from the National Government and founded the town of Baileyville, nearFreeport. Ransom and his family moved to Grundy County in 1877 and located two miles east of the homestead farm which they then developed. His land holdings in Iowa exceeded 2,400 acres at one time in Grundy,Emmet,Tama, Worth, Butler, Dickinsonand other counties of Iowa.
 Ransom first married Amanda Krantz(on 7 Mar1866) b. Oct.7,1848 d. Jul.15,1866, one year after their marriage ( presumably in child birth), he then married Mary Dyer, from E.Berne, Albany County, New York state, on 1January, 1867.
 Ransom did not engage in public office but was generous in cmmunity and church projects. He retired to Cedar Falls in 1896 renting the700 acre home farm to the Fearer Brothers for $3.25/acre..John Fearer and his wife later moved to Cdar Fallsand were good friends of the S.O.Bailey family.
Note:   Ransom was born at Baileys Mills, Reading, Windsor County, Vermont. As a young man he was engaged in farming at $12./m and at the age of 24 having accumulated $600.00, he and his older brother Orwell and younger brother Samuel,Jr. left Vermont,
