Note: that James and Laura Jackson's family bible lists all of their children except Susan, Henry and Martha. States the bible lists wifes name, Laura and grandson, JoBill White (real name Joseph William White). Joebill's daughter, Mary White Ashman (Amelia, VA) has possession of the family bible. Laura lived with JoBill and family when she was old and left everything to him, hence the bible went to his daughter. Marriage: Mrs. Bertha Jackson Foster writes in the Surry County Heritage Book, Vol 2 that James and Laura Jackson are found on the 1870 Surry County Census as living together. The 1880 Surry County census lists James as J.H. Jackson, divorced, 54 yrs, farmer with peralisis. Laura Jackson is listed separately as divorced, farmer with son, Joseph, 18, dau Elizabeth, 15. Henry, 21 and Isaac, 25 are listed as boarders. Marriage: Therefore, it is concluded that Laura and James divorced sometime between 1870 and 1880. Marriage: A marriage bond for James H.
